Scared to apply liquid eyeliner?

July 17, 2008

Most people I work with say they love the look of liquid eyeliner but shy away from it because they cannot apply it. Here are a few steps to help you perfect your liquid eyeliner makeup application...the same way the artist does it at home :)

Sit down at a table with a mirror in front of you. Steady your arm by placing your elbow on the table. Position your brush, pencil, or applicator so it is as close to the lash-line along the eyelid as possible. Start in the center of the eye and draw a line from the center to the outer corner using one fluid stroke, following the curvature of the eyelid. For a sultry look, extend the line slightly past the outer corner of the eye in an upward direction ending in a point. Last, go to the inner corner of the eye and draw the thinnest line from the tear ducts to the already established mid eye starting point.

Starting in the mid eye helps to control the thickness of the overall line. To start, keep the line as thin as possible, and if a thicker line is desired, repeat the process either across the entire lash-line or simply on the outer third of the lid along the lashes. Making the line along the eyelid a solid, even one, starting thin at the front third of the lid and becoming slightly thicker at the back third of the lid can be an attractive classic look. This look is also great for brides.

Practice this a few times before taking your makeup off each night. This will give you confidence and if you mess up just wash your face :)
